Knights vs Barbarians promises no holds barred fight to the finish action on the screen. An atmosphere of smoke and fire prevails in the background while on the reels the contestants brandish their weapons aggressively. The usual Pragmatic Play features like Free Games and Bonus Buys have been included, but the highlight is a new unique Centre Symbol Feature. It is triggered when one of the special symbols lands on the centre of the middle reel. The mechanism is explained in detail later in the review.
Knights vs Barbarians is a preferred online slot game for high roller players. The return is 96.51% and the game provider specifies the volatility as high. The maximum bet allowed is $240 per spin but this should be used, if at all, with extreme caution.
Paylines and Paytable Explained
In Knights vs Barbarians there is a two-step process to arrive at the bet amount. You select the coin value from $0.01 to $1.20 and the number of coins from 1 to 10. The product of your selections is multiplied by 20x to give the bet, which ranges from $0.20 to $240.
How to read the paylines?
Knights vs Barbarians uses the standard structure of 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 fixed paylines. Three or more like symbols appearing on paylines in adjacent reels starting from the left most one result in payouts.
How to read the paytable?
The paytable in the game rules displays payouts for the different numbers of the various symbols for the selected bet. When you change the bet amount, the payouts will automatically change in proportion. We reproduce the payout table for the maximum bet of $240.
From the payout table we have calculated the multipliers for each winning combination. When comparing different slot games for their payout potentials, the multipliers are more useful than the absolute payouts.

Bonus Features in Knights vs Barbarians

Centre Symbol Feature
The online slot has three special scatter symbols and when any of them land on the middle spot of the central reel the feature is triggered.
When the Knight’s scatter activates the feature then all symbols associated with the Knights become wild symbols. When the Barbarian’s scatter activates the feature then all symbols associated with the Barbarians become wild symbols. The Battle Scatter, consisting of the ensigns of both the Knights and the Barbarians, is the best of the lot. A battle follows and the symbols associated with the winner become wild symbols. A random multiplier from 2x to 100x the bet is applied to all winning combinations that include the wilds.
Free Games
You need to hit 3, 4, or 5 Free Games scatter symbols anywhere on the reels to trigger 10, 15, or 20 free games respectively. During the feature if a Free Games scatter symbol falls on the marked spot you will be randomly allotted additional 2 to 10 free games. The Centre Symbol Feature remains active and one of the four scatter symbols is guaranteed to land on the central spot.
Special Bets
In Knights vs Barbarians players have the option to activate special bets. You do not have to go for these bets and can play in the normal mode if you so desire.
Ante Bet: The bet multiplier becomes 80x, instead of the normal 20x. The payout table remains the same but the chance to trigger the free games increases by 12x.
Super Spin: The bet multiplier increases to 200x the selected bet. On every Super Spin you will definitely have a Knight Scatter, a Barbarian Scatter, or a Battle Scatter on the central spot.
Buy Free Games
Similarly, there are two options available for buying free games.
Standard: Pay a price of 100x the bet to trigger the regular free games instantly. In the next spin you are guaranteed 3, 4, or 5 Free Games scatter symbols.
Super Free Spins: You have to pay 500x the bet. The advantage is that only the Battle Scatter symbol or Free Games scatter symbol will land on the central spot in each spin.
Gameplay Overview
In this section we evaluate Knights vs Barbarians on three important gameplay indicators. You can learn more about these indicators at Jackpot Slots Canada.
Maximum Wins
The maximum amount that you can win in any spin is limited to 10,000x the bet. The Free Games are considered as a single spin and if you reach the limit the remaining spins will be aborted. This limit compares favourably with the industry average.
Volatility
Knights vs Barbarians is a high volatility slot machine. You will get big wins but usually at long intervals. Manage your bankroll so that you can play long sessions.
Return to Player (RTP)
The RTP of the base game is 96.51%, which classifies it as a high RTP slot game. The RTP does not change materially when the special bets or bonus buy features are activated. In all cases, the RTP ranges from 96.45% to 96.54%. There is no need to consider RTP when deciding whether to go for these options or not.
Audio and Visual Design
Great detailing is reflected in the audio visual design of Knights vs Barbarians slot game. The background to the reels displays an animated battle scene of the Barbarians storming the Knights castle. You can almost smell the smoke billowing from the turrets and feel the heat of the cannon fireballs streaming across the sky. The aggression is continued on the reels through the win animations and the face off between the assailants in the announcement of the bonus features and big wins.
We recommend playing this slot game with the audio enabled. The martial music in the background adds to the battle theme and this gets even more pronounced in the bonus features. The fierce animations are accompanied by threatening battle cries.
